Politics

This is just messed up: Cheney still trying to claim “ties between Hussein and al Qaeda” Even Wolfowitz says: Iraq had no part in 9-11 or Al-Qaeda. Cheney spends time trying to link Iraq to 9/11, then when asked about Saudi Arabia’s ties to al Qaeda and the Sept. 11 hijackers: “I don’t want to speculate,” he said, adding that Sept. 11 is “over with now, it’s done, it’s history and we can put it behind us.” Uh, so I guess we should just ignore any links to *other* countries that may have attacked us, right?

Middle class barely treads water

Why no press?

Sen. Joe Biden: Instead of killing medicare drugs, skipping the tax cut for the top 1% for one year would just about fund the president’s $87 billion Iraqi request. If Mr. Bush considers these lower taxes for the wealthy untouchable then who instead will make sacrifices?

PNAC

20 questions.

This guy is a bit of a rambler, but he highlights the very scary stuff that the PNAC comes up with and some thoughts about 9/11.

The PNAC includes people like Dick Cheney (now vice-president), Donald Rumsfeld (defence secretary), Paul Wolfowitz (Rumsfeld’s deputy), Jeb Bush (George Bush’s younger brother) and Lewis Libby (Cheney’s chief of staff).

Some of their goals:
-US must “discourage advanced industrial nations from challenging our leadership or even aspiring to a larger regional or global role”
-Spotlights China for “regime change”, saying “it is time to increase the presence of American forces in SE Asia”.
-Consider developing biological weapons “that can target specific genotypes [and] may transform biological warfare from the realm of terror to a politically useful tool”
-Pinpoints North Korea, Syria and Iran as dangerous regimes, and says their existence justifies the creation of a “worldwide command and control system”

Spiritual Machines

I am sure this won’t be everyone’s cup of tea, but I figured I would post it anyway. I am currently reading The Age of Spiritual Machines by Ray Kurzweil – and really enjoying the book. Sort of the same subject, but much less technical – I found this interesting read on future robotic labour by Marshall Brain (the guy that writes the How Stuff Works books.)
